Healthy LifeHealthy Life is Australia’s home of ‘feel good’. Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean hours of training at the gym and eating only salad leaves. It’s about making easy-to-manage healthy choices in your day-to-day living. Many people think they only need to see a doctor when they are sick or injured. The truth is, health care providers are also experts at preventing illnesses and finding and treating problems before you ever feel sick.

Data collected include health variables (e.g. self-reported health, physical functioning, cognitive functioning, health behaviour, use of health care facilities), psychological variables (e.g. psychological health, well-being, life satisfaction), economic variables (e.g. current work activity, job characteristics, opportunities to work past retirement age, sources and composition of current income, wealth and consumption, housing, education), and social support variables (e.g. assistance within families, transfers of income and assets, social networks, volunteer activities). Based on probability samples in all participating countries, SHARE represents the non-institutionalized population aged 50 and older.

This is a good idea for everyone, and especially for people with a mental illness as some of those affected can be at greater risk of physical health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. This can be due to the effects of weight gain combined with high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar (sometimes called ‘metabolic syndrome’).

Obesity-related co-morbid health conditions are the second leading cause of preventable death, following tobacco use. One-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or obese, and the dramatic rise in the prevalence of pediatric obesity has been predicted to lead to a decline in overall life expectancy. Relationship trouble may arise from unpredictable or careless behavior during manias or social withdrawal during depressions, and may be made worse by others’ lack of understanding of mood disorders. Though you may feel lonely and isolated at times, you are not alone—almost everyone who has dealt with a mood disorder has been frustrated by interpersonal difficulties. Education, communication, and acknowledgement of feelings are some things to keep in mind when working to build or rebuild relationships.

Engage in physical activity for at least 30 minutes every day. Take an exercise class, join the gym or just take a brisk walk outside. Making the time for physical activity is a necessity and not a luxury. Your mental health can affect your asthma, and asthma may affect your mental health. Talk to your doctor if you have been feeling down, anxious, or aren’t enjoying those things you normally do enjoy.

A vegetarian lifestyle has been promoted for a healthy lifestyle and weight loss ; vegetarians should check with their physicians to be sure they are getting enough vitamins , minerals , and iron in their food. Eat a variety of different whole foods instead of eating processed foods. 10 Whole foods offer a balance of healthy carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and other nutrients.
