Healthy LifeThe Healthy Lifestyle Course (HLTH1010) is a compulsory, one-year course for undergraduates to learn how to maintain a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle that will help them to effectively manage their life, learning and work. Because we know that healthy lifestyles are achieved through nurturing mind, body and spirit, well-being and fitness at the Y goes beyond just working out. In addition to fitness facilities, we provide educational programs to promote healthier decisions, and offer a variety of programs that support physical, intellectual and spiritual strength.

A vegetarian lifestyle has been promoted for a healthy lifestyle and weight loss ; vegetarians should check with their physicians to be sure they are getting enough vitamins , minerals , and iron in their food. Eat a variety of different whole foods instead of eating processed foods. 10 Whole foods offer a balance of healthy carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and other nutrients.

The healthy body weight seems to be the sticking point, because 13 percent of people were nonsmoking, active, healthy eaters. There were some demographic differences: Men were more likely to be active, while women were more likely to be non-smokers and to eat healthy diets. Older people had higher body-fat percentages and were less active than younger people.

Get moving. Aim for at least two-and-a-half hours of moderate aerobic exercise, or an hour and 15 minutes of more vigorous physical activity each week. You also should try strength training at least two days a week. Being healthy is not about being skinny or building up your muscles in a gym, then, it’s about feeling fitter – physically, mentally and emotionally.

Neighbourhood houses often run groups that can help you with healthy living including Tai Chi, meditation, Yoga, dance or walking groups. Some also have groups such as weight loss programs, Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and Gamblers Anonymous. People with asthma should keep their flu shots up to date. Ask your doctor which vaccinations are recommended for your age group and health conditions.
