Collagen may be defined as the type of protein that is found in the animal bodies specifically in the connective tissues. The extracellular spaces of the animals connective tissues is where this protein is found specifically. Other parts of the animal body such as the blood vessels, corneas, intervertebral discs and the dentin also contains the elements of the collagen. Since collagen is the main component of the connective tissues, it is therefore one of the most copious protein that is found in animals. The component that is used to make the collagen is the amino acid and it is mostly found on the fibrous tissues. The tendons, skin and the ligaments are good examples of such fibrous tissues.
The human body is the one which is responsible for making the collagen. The combination of the amino acids is what is known to produce the collagen whereby the amino acids are obtained by taking the protein rich foods. A number of reasons in some cases may lead to the decline of the collagen in the body. There is no way that one can use to measure such collagen levels but a decline in collagen levels may be known. A decline in the levels of the collagen in the body may be identified with the presence of wrinkled skin to a person. The pain in the joint, weakening and shrinking of the muscles and reduced tendons flexibility may also be considered as a sign of reduced levels of collagen in the body. The levels of the collagen in the body may however be restored by a number of ways. This includes the natural methods and the use of the supplements.
